The Emperor

If you are walking down Karve Road, you will find us in the Sankla Arcade. We are right across the street from Lagu Bandhu Jewellers. It’s a busy part of town, so there is always something going on outside our door. The Emperor is the name on the sign, though it’s not nearly as grand as it sounds. We just liked the name when we started. The shop is filled with various items we’ve picked up over the months. I spend most of my time organizing the shelves or trying to find space for new arrivals. It gets a bit cramped in here during the weekends when more people are out shopping. I’ve lived in this area for a long time, so I know a lot of the people who walk past. Sometimes they just pop their head in to say hello. We don’t have a big staff, just me and occasionally my nephew comes in to help move the heavier boxes. The lighting in the arcade isn't always the best, so I moved some lamps around to help people see the details on the products. It’s a practical setup. I use an old wooden desk for all the paperwork. Everything is done by hand mostly. Karve Road has changed a lot over the years, but we’ve stayed right here in the same spot. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes, but it works for our needs and the space we have.
