We are based in Erandwane, right near the HDFC ATM which is where everyone tells people to meet. It’s a convenient landmark because almost everyone knows where it is. Our office is small and simple. We have a few plastic chairs for people to sit on while we talk about properties. There are maps pinned to the wall, some of them are getting a bit yellow at the edges. The window looks out onto the street, and I spend a fair amount of time just watching people go about their business. Real estate in this area is always changing. One day a building is there, the next it’s being torn down for something new. We keep a lot of our listings in big registers with handwritten notes. It’s easier for me to find things that way than using a screen all the time. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook and other times it is quiet for hours. During the quiet times, I usually walk down to the corner for a vada pav. The neighbors are mostly other small business owners, so we all know each other. It’s not a corporate office with glass walls or fancy carpets. It’s just a place with a desk, a phone, and a lot of local knowledge. We try to keep things straightforward and honest with everyone who walks through the door.
