It’s a residential area mostly, so we spend a lot of our time navigating through the backstreets to reach people's houses. We aren't a big company with a fleet of hundreds of trucks. It’s just a few of us and our tankers. We’ve been working this area for quite a while now, so we know most of the shortcuts and where the low-hanging wires are that we need to avoid. The business started with just one old truck, and we’ve added to it slowly over the years. It’s a lot of maintenance work to keep everything running right. Water delivery isn't the kind of thing you can really plan perfectly because someone always has an emergency or a tank that ran out early. We try to be flexible with the timing. The office is really just a place to park the vehicles and keep the hoses. We spend most of our time in the driver’s seat. During the dry season, we’re busy from sunrise until well after dark. It’s tiring work, but we’re used to the rhythm of it now. We don't use any fancy logos or professional marketing. People just see the trucks and call the number painted on the side. We like being part of the Dhanakawadi community. It’s a decent living, and we know our neighbors count on us when their taps go dry.
