Down at the 5th Mile in Vadgoensheri, you’ll find us at Kartik Water Suppliers. It’s not much of an office, mostly just where we park the tankers and keep the hoses. I started this business after working for another supplier for years and deciding I wanted to be my own boss. We mainly serve the local houses and some of the smaller commercial buildings around this part of Vadgoensheri. The 5th Mile area is always busy, so getting the trucks out into traffic can be a challenge every morning. We don’t have a fancy website or a sales team. It’s usually just me answering the phone and coordinating with the drivers. Sometimes I’m behind the wheel myself if someone calls out sick. The work is physical and you get wet and dirty, but it pays the bills. During the dry season, the phone never stops ringing and we’re working from dawn until way past dark. We try to get to everyone, but there’s only so many hours in the day. The tankers need a lot of looking after, especially the pumps and the valves which tend to wear out. We just do our best to keep things running smoothly. People around here know they can just call my personal number when their tank is getting low. It’s a local operation, nothing too complicated about it. We just keep moving.
