Ismail & Co. has been operating out of Plot No.967 on Raviwar Peth for quite some time now. We are located right on Laxmi Road, which is one of the busiest streets you can imagine, especially in the evenings. Being near the Mahanagar Cooperative Bank helps people find us easily, though parking a scooter around here is always a bit of a challenge. The shop is an old style building with high ceilings and heavy wooden doors that we pull shut every night. We carry a bit of everything, from basic household items to specific hardware that people can't find in the newer shopping malls. It’s usually quite dark inside the shop even during the day, so we have several bright lights hanging from the beams. The street outside is always full of noise, people shouting, and horns honking, but once you step inside, it feels a bit more steady. We know most of the other shopkeepers on Raviwar Peth and we often help each other out if someone runs out of change or needs a hand moving something heavy. Our family has been in this trade for a long time and we don't see any reason to change how we do things. We keep the books manually and we like to talk to our customers about their families while we wrap up their purchases in brown paper. It's just a simple, old-fashioned way of doing business in a very busy city.
