Hakimi is located at 80 Khadki New Bazar. Khadki has its own distinct feel, being an old cantonment area, and the New Bazar is always buzzing with activity. We open up early in the morning when the vegetable sellers are still setting up their carts. Our shop is a bit of an old-fashioned place. We haven’t changed much over the years because we like the way things are. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, and we have to use a wooden ladder to reach the stuff at the very top. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when we have more than three or four people inside at once. We don't spend money on fancy advertisements or shiny signs. Most of our customers come to us because their parents or grandparents did. It’s that kind of place. We handle a lot of different things, and the inventory changes depending on what’s available or what people are asking for. The floor is made of old stone that’s worn smooth from all the feet walking over it. In the afternoons, it gets a bit quieter, and we usually sit near the front to catch whatever breeze comes through the door. It’s a simple life in the bazaar. We know the other shopkeepers, we know the local characters, and we just go about our business day by day without making much of a fuss or pretending to be something else.
