Ganesh Varieties

Ganesh Varieties is tucked away on Wood Street in Vishrantwadi. We call it "varieties" because we really do have a random mix of stuff. One shelf might have plastic buckets and the one next to it has school pens or birthday candles. It is a bit of a puzzle trying to fit everything in such a small shop. I’ve lived around here my whole life so Wood Street feels like home. The shop is usually a bit dark inside until you get used to it. We don't have fancy lights or displays. Most things are just stacked up high. If you want something from the top shelf, I have to get the old wooden ladder out. It’s a bit rickety but it does the job. Some days are slow and I just sit on the stool near the door watching the cars go by. Other days, like during festivals, it’s a madhouse with everyone looking for decorations or small gifts. We keep the shop open late most nights because that's when people realize they ran out of something. It’s a lot of work, especially cleaning the glass cases where we keep the smaller items. They get finger marks all over them by the end of the shift. It isn't a big supermarket, just a local spot where you can find those odd bits and pieces you can't find elsewhere. It keeps me busy and that is enough for me.
