Auroambala Handicraft

You can find us at Isaiambalam in the Anlangkuppam area, right near Auroville. It’s a much quieter place than the big cities. Auroambala Handicraft is more of a community spot than a strict office. We have a lot of open space and the air feels different here, more like the countryside. There’s a lot of wood and clay and thread around because that’s what we work with every day. The building is simple, with tiled roofs and some trees nearby that give us shade. We don't really follow a strict corporate schedule, we just start when the sun is up and work until the light fades. Most of the people here live nearby and walk or bike to the workshop. It’s not uncommon to see a few dogs napping in the porch. We don't have fancy machinery, just basic tools and a lot of patience. The floors are often covered in dust from the carving or bits of thread from the weaving. Sometimes visitors from Auroville stop by to see what we are making. It’s a slow pace of life, and we like it that way. We spend time talking while we work, mostly about local things or what’s for dinner. It’s an honest way to spend the day. The Isaiambalam area is peaceful, and our little handicraft setup fits right in with the surroundings. We just make things by hand and hope they find a good home.
