S.B.M. Inter College

S.B.M. Inter College has its place in Chakdaud Nagar Naini, which is a busy part of Allahabad. The college building has been standing for quite a while and has that old-school feel to it. In this part of the city, there is always a lot of dust and noise from the nearby industries and the main roads. Students come from all over Naini, many of them riding their bicycles which they park in the long rows under the tin shed. As an inter college, we have a mix of younger kids and the older ones who are finishing up their higher secondary years. The classrooms have high ceilings and heavy wooden doors that sometimes creak. We spend a lot of our time managing the schedules for the different sections and making sure the science labs have what they need for the practicals. The administrative office is usually piled high with files and registration forms, especially when the board exams are approaching. During the lunch break, the students sit under the neem trees in the yard to eat their food. Allahabad summers are no joke, so by the afternoon, everyone is usually ready to head home to Chakdaud Nagar. It’s a grounded place where the routine doesn't change much from year to year. We just keep the gates open, ring the bells, and make sure the teachers are in their rooms when the whistle blows.
