Indian Institute Of Information Technology (Iiit)

We have been here at the Nehru Science Centre on K N Road for quite a while now. It is a bit of a busy spot, especially in the mornings when everyone is trying to get to work or class at the Indian Institute Of Information Technology. Most days start with the sound of shutters going up and the smell of tea from the corner stall. We don't really do the whole fancy office thing. It’s mostly just desks, computers, and a lot of wires running along the walls because things are always being moved around. People think an IT place would be very quiet and clinical, but it's actually quite noisy here. There is always someone talking about a project or trying to fix a keyboard that stopped working for no reason. The light coming in from the windows on K N Road is nice in the winter, though it gets pretty hot in the afternoons during July. We usually just leave the door open a crack to let some air in. It’s not a big corporate setup with a receptionist and matching furniture. Most of us have been working together for years, so we just know how things go. If a computer acts up, someone grabs a screwdriver and gets to it. We keep things pretty simple. It is just a place where people come to learn and work on tech stuff without too much fuss or extra decoration on the walls. It isn't perfect, but it works for us and the students.
