Hari Ram & Sons Papad

Making papads is what my family has done for as long as I can remember. We are located at 362/145 in Dariyabad Jogighat. It is a place where the air usually smells like lentils and black pepper. Hari Ram & Sons Papad isn't a factory with machines everywhere. A lot of what we do involves human hands and watching the weather. If it is going to rain, we have to move fast. My father, Hari Ram, started this with just a few baskets and a dream to keep his kids fed. Now we have a few more people helping out, mostly women from the neighborhood who know exactly how thin to roll the dough. We spend our mornings mixing the spices and the afternoons drying things out. It is a lot of physical work and your back starts to ache after a while. The Jogighat area is always lively, and we often have people just dropping by to see if we have a fresh batch ready. We do not use any fancy packaging or big advertisements. The word usually gets around because people know where we are. Our office is just a small room with a wooden table and a heavy safe for the cash. It is a simple life but we are proud of the snacks we make. We try to keep the old ways of doing things even though the world is moving fast. We focus on the dough and the drying.
