Poonam Ice & Cold Storage

Our place is right near the New Fish Market in the Lakdi Bandar area. If you come by, you’ll probably hear the hum of the cooling units before you see the sign. Poonam Ice & Cold Storage is a pretty straightforward operation. We make ice and we keep things cold, mostly for the fishermen and traders who work next door. It’s a wet and cold environment, as you might expect. The floor is usually a bit slippery, and we all wear heavy boots to keep our feet dry. It’s not the kind of job where you wear a suit to work. We spend our time moving blocks of ice or checking the temperature in the storage rooms. The Lakdi Bandar area is always busy with the smell of the sea and the sound of boats. We’ve been here for a long time, and everyone in the market knows where to find us. We don't have a website or a fancy office; we just have a lot of cold space and some hard-working people. Sometimes the machines need a bit of a kick to keep going, but we make it work. It’s a necessary job for the local fishing industry, and we take it seriously without making a big deal out of it. It is hard, physical work, but it’s what keeps the town’s fish fresh, and we are happy to do it. It’s just the way things are done around here to keep the market going.
