Up in Pachalana, you can find the Soron Farmer Fed Producer Company Limited. We are located with Manpal, who handles a lot of the coordination for us. Soron is a place where farming is the main thing everyone knows. We formed this federation because individual farmers were having a tough time getting decent prices. By coming together in Pachalana, we have a bit more leverage. It isn't a fancy business with a reception desk. It’s more of a community hub where we decide which markets to target and how to share the costs of transport. Manpal’s place is usually where you’ll find a few of us sitting around discussing the latest weather reports or the cost of fertilizer. We don't use big words or talk about 'innovation' all the time. We just talk about what’s happening in the fields and how we can make sure we don't lose money this year. Most of us have known each other since we were kids, so there is a lot of trust involved. It’s a simple setup, run by people who actually know how to use a plow. We don't have a mission statement on the wall; we just have a calendar with the harvest dates marked in pen. It’s honest work, and we are just trying to keep the farming community in Soron strong and independent. We stick together because we know that is the only way to get through the hard seasons.
