Sangathi Garment

The shop is on the ground floor of the Jagat Trade Center, right there on Fraser Road. If you know Patna, you know how crowded this area gets, especially in the evenings. We’ve got the 16 JTC spot. It’s not a huge space, but we pack a lot of garments into those shelves. Every morning starts with opening the shutters and dusting everything off because the road outside brings in a lot of grit. We usually have the radio playing some old songs while we organize the stock. It’s mostly just us handling the customers and making sure the hangers aren’t empty. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit by the door for some air. It’s part of the job. We get all kinds of people coming in from the street, some looking for something specific and others just passing time. We don’t do any big advertisements. People just see the sign and walk in. The building itself is old, so we’re always fixing a shelf or moving a light. It’s a lot of lifting and shifting bags. Lunch is usually brought from home and eaten in the back corner among the plastic crates. By the time we close up, Fraser Road is still humming with rickshaws and motorbikes. It’s a tired kind of feeling at the end of the day, but we’re back again the next morning to do it all over again, checking the inventory and waiting for the next truck to pull up.
