Neel Steel

You can find Neel Steel over on Rai Jai Krishna Road, down by Mitan Ghat. It’s an old part of the area and our building has been here for quite a while. We deal with a lot of heavy steel pipes and rods, so the place is always full of metal. It’s not the cleanest environment, everything has a bit of iron dust on it, but that’s expected. We spend our days loading and unloading trucks that come through the narrow streets. It takes some skill to get the big vehicles in and out of Mitan Ghat without hitting anything. I usually work alongside the guys, moving things around or checking the stock. We don't have a computer system to track everything, we mostly just remember where things are or check our handwritten lists. The noise of metal clanging together is something you just stop hearing after a few years. It’s hard, physical work, especially when it’s hot outside and the metal gets warm to the touch. We aren't trying to be some high-tech corporation. We’re just a local steel yard where people can get what they need for their building projects. Most of our customers are builders from the neighborhood who have been coming to us for a long time. It’s a straightforward business, no frills, just honest labor on the riverbank. We have some heavy machinery for cutting, but it's mostly manual work.
