Asst Engineer (Billing & Planning)

Working at the P & T Cell at NIT Patna means being right in the middle of the Golakpur area. The office is tucked away in the Mahendru part of the city. Being an assistant engineer here, specifically for billing and planning, means dealing with a lot of numbers and spreadsheets. The building is an old one, part of the campus fabric, and it has those high ceilings that don’t really help with the Patna humidity. My desk is tucked into a corner near a window that looks out towards the hustle of the Mahendru streets. There’s always a stack of bills waiting to be checked and plans that need to be reviewed before anything can move forward. It’s a lot of sitting and calculating, which can get a bit tedious, but it’s necessary for the projects. We have tea brought in twice a day in small glass cups, and that’s usually when we get a break from the paperwork. The atmosphere isn't corporate at all; it feels more like a government office where things take their time. We don't have any marketing brochures because we aren't trying to sell anything. We are just here to make sure the planning for the university’s physical works is done right and the contractors are paid what they are owed. It’s a quiet kind of job compared to the noise of the city outside.
