If you walk near No. 246 Gidc Phase- 1, you can usually smell the tea. It’s a strong, earthy scent that sticks to your clothes. Mahesh Tea Processors & Packers Ltd. has been operating out of this GIDC plot for a while now. The building is older, with some stains on the walls and floors that won’t ever come out. We spend our time processing and getting everything into bags. It’s a lot of repetitive movement. You get used to the rhythm of the packing machines. It’s almost like music after a while. We aren’t some giant corporation with hundreds of offices. We’re just here in Phase 1, trying to keep the machines running. Sometimes a belt breaks or a hopper gets jammed, and everything stops while we fix it. Those are the quiet moments when we grab a cup of the very tea we pack. It’s honest work. The workers here have been with us for a long time. We know about each other’s families and what’s going on in the town. When the trucks come to pick up the crates, it’s a rush to get everything loaded. Then it gets quiet again for a bit. We don't have any fancy mission statements on the walls. Just the schedule and maybe a calendar from last year.
