Civil Engineer

Being in Kunvara, near Siddhpur, is different from working in the big cities. My office is basically part of the local landscape here in Patan district. Most of the time, I’m out on sites where the ground is dry and the sun is quite harsh. I’ve spent my life looking at soil and bricks. People around here need practical help with their houses or small commercial buildings. I don’t use big words or try to impress anyone. I just look at the land and tell them what’s possible. My office isn't much to look at, just a table, some files, and a fan that clicks. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit and wait. It gives us a chance to talk to the neighbors. Engineering here is about making things last with what we have. I’ve seen a lot of changes in Siddhpur over the years. Some good, some okay. I like working with my hands and being on-site more than sitting behind a computer. The dust gets everywhere, even in my hair. But that’s just part of the job. It’s a simple life. I go where the work is. If someone in the village needs a measurement taken, they come find me. We keep things honest and straightforward. That’s how we’ve always done it here. There is no need for anything fancy when you are dealing with real dirt and stone. We just do the work and go home.
