Down on Desuri Road in Sadri, things move at a certain pace. We are located near the Chhatriya Mahadev Parishad, which is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. Selling cement isn’t exactly a clean job. If you walk into our place, you’re going to get some dust on your shoes. That’s just the nature of the work. We spend our mornings waiting for the big lorries to bring in the fresh stock. Stacking those heavy bags takes a lot out of you, especially when the sun is hitting the road hard in the afternoon. We have been part of this community for a long time now. We know the local builders and the families trying to add a room to their house. There is no big sales pitch here. We just tell people what we have in stock and when it can be delivered. Sometimes the rains make things difficult because you can’t let the cement get damp, so we are always checking the tarpaulins. It’s a simple cycle of unloading and reloading. We take our tea breaks under the shade of the awning when the road goes quiet for a bit. It’s a practical business run by people who don’t mind getting their hands dirty every single day. We don't have much in the way of fancy equipment, just our hands and the trucks that come through Sadri.
