Amit Shrimali

Up here at Desuri Dhal, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. My name is Amit Shrimali and this is where I work in Narlai. It’s a quiet spot, really. You can actually hear the birds sometimes, which you don’t get if you’re down in the main markets. The building isn’t much to look at, just a sturdy place to keep the rain out and the sun off. I’ve been here for a good while now. Most of the people who come in are locals from around the village or travelers passing through the dhal. I keep the doors open most of the day to let the breeze in. It gets hot in the summer, so we just do what we can. I don’t have a big staff or a fancy computer system. It’s mostly just me writing things down and making sure everything is in order. Sometimes a neighbor stops by just to chat about the weather or the crops. It’s that kind of place. We don’t have any big goals of expanding or moving to a city. This is where the roots are. I handle my business in a way that’s fair and straightforward. If someone needs something, they come and find me. It’s not complicated. I've lived around here forever and I know most faces that walk past. It’s just how things are.
