Down on Nellissery Road in Vattamkulam, that’s where you’ll find us. We’re at IX / 436. The name is Rice And Flavours Limited Liability Part, which is a bit long to say, so we just say the shop or the warehouse. It’s mostly bags of rice and different spices and things that give off a strong smell when you walk in. Sometimes the chili or the turmeric makes you sneeze if the bags aren't tied tight. We spend a lot of time weighing stuff out. The road outside can get a bit congested with the local traffic, especially near the Po. We have a small crew here. Everyone knows their job. We don’t really have meetings; we just talk while we’re working. The floor is concrete and gets cold in the rainy season. We try to keep things organized, but when a big delivery comes, stuff just piles up wherever there is room. It’s a practical way of living. We aren’t trying to impress anyone with a website or big advertisements. People just know we’re here on Nellissery Road. We take care of the inventory and try to stay ahead of the orders. It’s a lot of physical labor, lifting and stacking. By the end of the day, everyone is tired and ready to go home. We just close the shutter and that’s that. We just come back and start again the next morning. It works for us.
