Prakash Tiles

Our shop is located at 25C on Chittur Road, and it’s a place where we spend most of our time surrounded by stacks of tiles. If you walk in, you’ll see crates piled up and various samples laid out so people can see them. Lifting these boxes is heavy work, and our backs definitely feel it by the end of the day. We get all sorts of people stopping by, some who are building their first home and others who are just fixing a small bathroom. We don’t have a big sales team or anything like that, just a few of us who know where everything is stored. The road outside can get pretty dusty with all the traffic passing through Chittur. We spend a lot of time cleaning the display pieces because they get covered in grit so easily. Sometimes we have to wait a while for the new designs to arrive from the factories. It’s not a fancy showroom with bright lights, just a practical space where we keep our inventory. Talking to the truck drivers and helping them load up the orders takes a lot of time if it's a big job. Every day is a bit different depending on who walks through the door. We just try to keep the stacks organized so we don’t lose track of what we have left in the back room. It is quite a repetitive job but it keeps the business going and the street stays busy.
