Mahaganapathy Lower Primary School

Our school is in a bit of an interesting spot, right on the border area. We are in M. Pudur, near Govindapuram, which sits between Palakkad in Kerala and the Tamil Nadu side. Because of where we are, we get a mix of influences. It’s a lower primary school, so it’s all small children from the surrounding villages. The school building is quite modest, just a few rooms where we teach the little ones. It’s often quiet around here, except for when the kids are at play. We focus on the early years of schooling, trying to get them comfortable with letters and numbers. Many of the families around here are farmers or work in small local shops, so they appreciate having a school close by. We don’t have a big playground, but the children find plenty of space to run around under the trees. The staff here is small, just a few of us who handle everything from teaching to keeping the place clean. It’s not a fancy institution with big gates. It’s just a local school for the local community. We deal with the usual things like fixing a leaky pipe or making sure the mid-day meal is ready on time. Life moves at a slower pace in this part of Palakkad. We’ve been here for years, and most people in M. Pudur know us by name. It’s a simple, honest way to spend the day for the children.
