Mother Teresa Convent School

Our school is right on Dharmapurai Main Road in Omalur. If you are driving through Salem, you’ve probably passed by Mother Teresa Convent School many times. It’s a pretty busy spot with all the traffic. We’ve been here for quite some time now. The building has seen a lot of students come and go. Every morning starts the same way with the prayer and then the shuffle of feet going to the classrooms. We don't use big words to describe what we do. It’s just a school. The teachers are local people who live nearby. Sometimes the power goes out and we just open the windows wider. It gets hot in Omalur, so we try to keep things as comfortable as we can for the kids. The benches are a bit old but they work fine. We have a small staff room where we sit and drink tea during the break. We talk about the kids and the exams. Parents often drop in without an appointment just to check on things. We don't mind. It feels more like a community here than a big institution. Sometimes we have to paint the walls or fix a leaky tap in the washroom. It is just the regular stuff you deal with when you run a place like this. We are just doing our part here on the main road.
