Being over at B-169 in the New Subzi Mandi at Azadpur means we start our days pretty early. Most people are still sleeping in their beds when we get to the stall to start the work. It is a loud place, always people shouting and trucks backing in and out. You really have to watch where you walk because it's always crowded with wooden crates and heavy carts. It’s not a quiet office job at all. We’ve been in this same spot for years, and the walls definitely show it. Just a bit of paint peeling and some old, scratched-up desks. We handle a lot of phone calls from people asking about the prices and what exactly came in on the morning trucks. It changes every single morning, so you never really know what to expect. Sometimes the bad weather messes with the deliveries, and we just have to sit around and wait it out. There’s a lot of tea drinking while we wait for the next load to finally arrive. It’s just how things go here in the Mandi. We know most of the other guys around here by name. We trade stories about the traffic or how the market is moving today. It gets pretty dusty and messy by noon, but that's just the nature of this work. We don't have any flashy brochures or anything like that. We just write things down in our old ledgers and move the stock.
