Shop number 86 is where you will find us in Mapusa Market. It’s right near that HP petrol pump, which helps because people stop by after they get fuel for their bikes or cars. The market is always a bit chaotic, especially on Fridays when everyone comes in from the surrounding areas. We spend most of the day just running the machine and crushing the cane. It’s a lot of physical work, honestly. My hands are usually sticky by noon. We keep the cold drinks in the cooler and hope the ice lasts through the afternoon heat. It gets really hot under the roof here. We have some plastic stools for people to sit on if they want to take a break from walking around the stalls. The floor stays wet because we are always washing things down. It isn't a quiet place. You hear the traffic from the main road and the people shouting in the market all day long. We just keep the juice coming. Some days we run out of cane early if it’s a busy one. It’s just a small shop, nothing fancy at all. We try to keep it clean, but in a busy market like this, there is always dust. We’ve been at this spot for some time now. It’s a basic setup but it works for what we do every day.
