Our shop is tucked away in Bhagirath Palace, which anyone from around here knows is a total maze. If you come to 1801/23, you’ll find Shanti Electric Co. surrounded by boxes of wires and different kinds of lighting fixtures. Chandni Chowk is always loud and crowded, so there’s never a quiet moment outside the door. We spend most of the morning just unpacking shipments and putting things on the shelves where they belong. It’s a small space, so if three people walk in at once, it feels pretty packed. We deal with all sorts of electrical bits, from small switches to heavy-duty cables that people need for their houses or bigger buildings nearby. Most of our customers are folks who have been coming to this market for twenty years and know exactly what they want. We don't spend time on big displays because the inventory moves too fast anyway. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a quick break, but usually, it's just one person after another asking for a specific fuse or a bulb that’s hard to find. The shelves are high and we use an old wooden ladder to reach the top. It’s been the same routine for a long time. We know the regulars by name and they know we’ll find what they’re looking for eventually. It’s just how things go in a busy place like this. It is simple work, really.
