Mahesh Trading Co

If you have ever been to Chawri Bazar, then you know it is a real maze of streets. Mahesh Trading Co is located in Lohe Wali Gali, at number 3664. It’s a very old part of the city and the lanes are so narrow that you can barely fit a cycle rickshaw through some of them. We have been tucked away in this little gali for many years now. The walls in this building are very thick, so the shop stays relatively cool even when the summer sun is beating down on the rest of Delhi. We deal mostly with metal and hardware stuff, so there is always a bit of a smell of iron and dust in the air. It’s a busy life for us. We start work early because that is when the laborers are moving goods before it gets too crowded to move. There isn't much space for a proper office, so we just have a small area with a wooden desk and some stools for guests. We drink a lot of chai from the boy who walks around the lane with a kettle. Everyone knows everyone else in this gali. We don't bother with any fancy advertising or marketing. People just know where to find us when they need something. It’s a lot of shouting across the lane and bargaining over prices. That’s just the way trading works here. It’s loud and messy, but it’s home for us.
