M Irfan

Meena Bazar is one of those places that never really goes quiet, and being at K/79 right near the Jama Masjid means there is always a crowd. I am M Irfan, and this little corner has been my life for as long as I can remember. The shop isn't much to look at, just a small stall packed with goods, but it keeps us busy from morning until the last prayer. You hear the calls to prayer five times a day, and the smell of kebabs from the nearby stalls is always in the air. People come from all over the city to browse Meena Bazar, and they stop here to see what we have on the hooks today. It’s a lot of manual work, moving stock in and out every single day because we don't have a lot of storage space inside. Sometimes the rain leaks through a tiny gap in the roof, and we have to scramble to cover everything with blue plastic sheets. My nephew helps me out on the weekends when the tourists are thickest. We don't have a website or fancy business cards. If you want something, you just come and talk to us. We bargain a bit, we share some news about the family, and that’s how we do business. It is a bit loud and messy, but it’s home for us. We’ve known the neighbors for decades and we just keep on going like everyone else here.
