Agate Art

You have to head up to the first floor at House Number 2913 on Gali Sapru to find us. Turkman Gate Road is always a bit of a squeeze, so it’s quieter once you get inside. We’ve been working out of this space for years. It’s mostly just shelves filled with stones and the sound of polishing machines. Some of the windows don't close all the way, so you get a bit of a breeze in the winter. We don't have a fancy showroom. If you come by, you'll see us in our work clothes, probably with some dust on our hands. We call the business Agate Art, which makes sense since that’s what we do. Working with stones takes a lot of patience, and we have plenty of that. Some pieces take days, others longer. We don't rush it because that’s when things break. My brother and I run the place, and we usually have a few cousins helping out too. It’s a family thing, really. We grew up around this trade. Sometimes the lighting isn't great, but we know the stones by feel. We eat lunch together on the floor most days. It’s just how we’ve always done it. We don't do much advertising. People usually find us through word of mouth or by just wandering into the lane. It’s a solid way to live, even if it’s not glamorous.
