Mishra Candle Works

Mishra Candle Works is located right in the heart of the market at 143, Tilak Bazar. If you’ve ever been to Khari Baoli, you know how crowded and loud it gets. Our shop is tucked in there among all the other sellers. It’s a small space, mostly filled with boxes and the smell of wax. We’ve been here for years. My father was here before me, and we just keep the tradition going. The shop doesn't have air conditioning, so it gets quite hot in the summer, but we are used to it by now. We spend our days melting wax and setting wicks. It’s repetitive work, but there is something nice about seeing the finished candles stacked up. People come from all over the city to buy from Tilak Bazar. We don't have a website or anything like that. Most people just find us by walking through the lanes and looking at the signs. Sometimes the narrow streets get so packed that it takes forever just to move a few feet. We drink a lot of chai and talk to the other shopkeepers while we work. It’s a very old way of doing business, but it still works. We don't use fancy packaging unless someone asks for it. Usually, we just wrap things in plain paper and tie them with string. It’s simple and it gets the job done. That’s our life here in Khari Baoli, and we wouldn't change it for anything else.
