Thakur Saree Palace

Thakur Saree Palace is over in the Harola area of Sector 4. We are at C-101 on the main road, right near the Sabzi Mandi. The vegetable market makes the whole area very lively and loud, especially in the early mornings when the trucks are unloading. You can hear the vendors calling out their prices while you are standing inside the shop. We’ve been here for a long time, selling all kinds of different sarees to the locals. The shop is just a regular room filled with stacks of fabric. We don't have any fancy decorations or glass display cases like the big stores do. Most of our stuff is kept in simple plastic bags on the shelves just to keep the city dust off of them. Harola is a very crowded place, and the main road can get pretty jammed up with carts and bikes. It’s a bit of a struggle for people to find a place to park their scooters sometimes. I usually sit on a chair near the front and watch the street when business is slow. People from the neighborhood come here because they've known us for years. We don't use any of that slick sales talk you hear in malls. We just show the sarees and let the people decide for themselves. It’s a simple way to do business. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we haven't quite gotten around to it yet. We just focus on keeping the stock updated.
