Out here at Plot No.-164 in Pawan Pure, things stay pretty busy. Shree Balaji Black Salt Industries is right in the middle of the industrial area in Modinagar. If you walk by, you’ll definitely know we are here because of the strong smell of the black salt. It’s a very specific scent, kind of like sulfur, and it sticks to your clothes after a while. We spend a lot of time grinding and processing the salt. The machines make a fair bit of noise, so you have to talk loud to be heard. Most of the guys working here are from the local neighborhood. We don’t have a big corporate team; it’s just us doing the daily tasks. The industrial area can get crowded with lorries coming and going throughout the day. Our floor is usually covered in a fine dark dust, which is just part of the job. We keep the doors open to let the air move, even when it’s hot outside. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, but we just wait it out or work on the packing. It’s honest work, and we’ve been at this spot for quite some time now. People know us for the black salt we produce here. It’s not a glamorous place, just a workspace where we get the job done and head back to our families in the evening.
