You can find us at 11 Upper Bazar here in Modi Nagar. We deal in all kinds of cloth, not just finished pieces. People come here when they want to get something stitched or if they need material for the house. It’s a bit of a climb up to this part of the market, but people know the way. The shop is full of rolls of fabric. There’s cotton, synthetics, and some heavier materials too. It smells like new cloth in here, which I’ve gotten used to over the years. We spend a lot of time measuring and cutting. My hands get tired from the big scissors by the end of the day. We aren't trying to be a fancy boutique. We are just a cloth merchant shop. If you need five meters of something for a suit, we cut it for you. We’ve seen the market change a lot over the years, but we stay right here. Most of our customers are locals who live within walking distance. They come in for a chat as much as they do for the cloth. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of old ceiling fans that hum. It gets the job done. We try to keep the stacks neat, but when people want to see everything, it ends up in a pile. We just sort it out later when the shop is empty. It is a simple way to make a living and we are happy with it.
