Manchanda General Store

Our shop, Manchanda General Store, is located at number 32 in the Rukmani Market in Modi Nagar. Rukmani Market is a busy place and we are right in the thick of it. We sell all the basic things people need for their homes like soap, flour, pulses, and snacks. I took over this store from my father, and not much has changed since then. We still use the same old wooden shelves, though they are a bit bowed now from the weight of the goods. I know most of my customers by their names. We talk about their families and how the kids are doing while I weigh out the sugar or pack the lentils. It is a noisy market with people shouting and bells ringing, but I like the energy of it. The shop is quite packed, so I have to be careful where I step. I don't have a computer for billing; I still use a paper notebook and a calculator. It works fine for me. Modi Nagar is a good place to have a shop like this because people still prefer coming to a local store rather than going to those big supermarkets far away. We stay open from early morning until late at night because you never know when someone might run out of milk or salt. It is a simple life at Rukmani Market 32. I hope to keep it going for many more years.
