The machines at Jaypee Autoplast in Sector 8 at C 93 are almost never silent. Working with plastics means there is always a certain smell in the air, a mix of heat and raw materials that you get used to after your first week on the job. The floors are marked with yellow lines to show where it is safe to walk, though those lines have faded over the years. We spend our shifts monitoring the molds and making sure the plastic is flowing correctly. If something gets stuck, we have to stop everything and clear it out, which can be a real headache when we have a lot to get through. The C 93 building isn't anything fancy to look at from the outside, but it is solid and does the job for what we need. We have a small corner where we keep our lunch boxes and a water cooler that gets a lot of use during the hotter months. Sector 8 is a good spot for this kind of work because everything we need is relatively close by. We aren't trying to impress anyone with the way the shop looks; we just care about the parts coming off the line being the right shape and size. Most of us have been here long enough that we can tell if a machine is acting up just by the sound it makes. It is loud and hot, but it is what we do.
