Durga Sweets

We have been here at House No 3380 in South Patel Nagar for a long time now. It’s right in the middle of Ranjit Nagar Market, near the Old Pusa Gate. Most mornings start early for us because the milk arrives and we have to get the pans ready. It gets quite hot in the back when we are boiling down the milk for the sweets. You can see the steam from the street sometimes. We don't have a fancy shop, just the usual glass counters filled with whatever we made that day. Sometimes it's gulab jamun and other times it’s different kinds of barfi. People stop by on their way home from work to pick up a box or just to have a quick snack standing outside. The market gets very crowded in the evenings, so it gets a bit loud around here with all the traffic and people shouting. We just keep busy behind the counter. My nephew helps out during the holidays when it gets really packed. We try to keep things clean but with the dust from the road and the constant flow of people, it’s a full-time job just wiping down the counters. We aren't trying to do anything special, just making the same things we’ve always made here in Patel Nagar. It’s a small place but it’s ours and we know most of the people who walk through the door by their names now.
