Durga Sweets

Durga Sweets is over in Patel Nagar at House No 3380 in the Ranjit Nagar Market. We are quite close to the Old Pusa Gate, so it is a spot many people pass by on their way home. My family has been running this sweet shop for many years. We start work very early, usually before the sun is even up, to get the milk boiling for the sweets. The market starts getting busy by ten and doesn't really slow down until late at night. We make all the usual stuff like laddoos and barfis. The smell of frying ghee is always in the air around our shop. It is a small space and the counters are always packed with different trays of whatever we finished making that hour. During festival times, it gets really crazy and we barely have room to move behind the glass. We have some regular customers who have been coming to us since they were children. Now they bring their own kids to get a piece of candy or a samosa. The floors are old and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we spend most of our time focusing on the food. It’s a lot of standing and packing boxes, and my back usually aches by the end of the day. But this is the only work we know and we just keep at it every day.
