Chhabra Sweet

Our shop is tucked away in the basement of the Abhay Singh Market. If you are driving along MG Road in Sukhrali, you might miss us if you aren't looking closely, as the entrance is down a short flight of concrete stairs. Being in the basement has its ups and downs. It stays cooler during those really hot Delhi summer days, which is a relief for us when we are working. On the other hand, it can get a bit damp when it rains heavily outside, so we are always keeping an eye on the walls. The market itself is an older building and has a lot of character, even if it looks a bit worn out in places. We have a small counter where we handle everything. Most of our day is spent making sure everything is arranged neatly and checking on our stock. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who have been working together for a long time. You’ll usually find one of us sitting by the entrance or tidying up the back area. We get a mix of people coming in—commuters from MG Road, shopkeepers from the floors above us, and families from the Sukhrali area. It is a quiet kind of life down here. We don't go in for anything flashy. We just open up the shutters every morning and stay until the market starts to shut down for the night. It’s a steady routine for us.
