Chawla Cloth House

Our shop is at number 2 in the Old Tehsil Compound in Modi Nagar. It’s an old building and has a lot of character, even if it’s a bit worn down in places. We have been in this spot for a long time, and most people in Modi Nagar know the area well. I deal mostly in unstitched cloth and different types of fabrics. People come in to buy a few meters of this or that to take to their tailor. The shop is full of big rolls of cloth leaning against the walls. I spend a lot of time measuring and cutting fabric on the big wooden table in the middle. It’s a lot of physical work, especially when the rolls are heavy. The Old Tehsil Compound is a bit away from the main highway, so it’s not as loud as some other parts of town, which I appreciate. I usually have a radio playing in the background to keep me company. My family has always been in the cloth business, so it’s just what I know how to do. I don’t use any fancy marketing or anything like that. People just know we are here and they come when they need something for a suit or a dress. The lighting is a bit dim inside, but you can see the colors well enough when I take the fabric to the door. It’s a quiet, steady life here in Modi Nagar, and I’m fine with that.
