We spend a lot of time here at Big Cinemas in Sector 38. Turning on the lights in the lobby is how the day starts. The popcorn machine needs a good scrub every single day or it gets greasy. People come to Sector 38 for a show and the lines get long on Saturdays. We try to keep things moving as best as we can. The projectors are tricky sometimes and they need a lot of looking after. The air conditioning in the halls is always a bit cold, so we tell people to bring a sweater. We find all sorts of things under the seats after a movie ends. Lost phones, half-eaten snacks, sometimes even a shoe. It's a lot of walking up and down the aisles with a flashlight. The carpet at A/2 has seen better days but it's okay for now. We just work here and make sure the reels start on time. It gets loud when the big action movies play. My ears ring a little at the end of a long shift. We get the schedules printed out and taped to the glass for everyone to see. Some of us have worked here for years. We have to check the bathrooms every hour because people leave the taps running. The lobby smells like butter all the time. Even my clothes at home smell like it now. We sit on the plastic chairs during our break and eat our lunch. It’s just how it is.
