Aggarwal Sweets

Our shop is in the I Block market of Sector 12, and if you know this area, you know how busy it gets on the weekends. Aggarwal Sweets has been here through a lot of changes in the neighborhood. The kitchen stays hot all day long because of the big vats of oil and sugar we use. We start very early, usually before the sun is even up, to get the first batches ready. There’s always a smell of cardamom and frying dough in the air, which stays on your clothes long after you go home. We don’t have a fancy seating area, just a few standing tables and the counter where we wrap up the boxes. During Diwali or Holi, the line goes out the door and all the way down the sidewalk. It gets stressful and we sometimes lose our tempers with each other, but we always get through it. We buy our milk and flour from the same suppliers we’ve used for years because we know them. The floor can get a bit sticky from the syrup, no matter how many times we mop it during the shift. We are just a local sweet shop trying to do things the way they’ve always been done. It’s a lot of manual labor and standing on your feet for ten hours a day, but it’s our life and we’re used to it by now. We hope people enjoy the treats we make.
