Raisan Bengali School

Our school is located in CR Park, which most people know as the heart of the Bengali community in New Delhi. It’s a very specific kind of neighborhood, and we fit right in. The school has been around for quite some time, and it feels like a part of the local history. You can hear Bengali being spoken everywhere, from the classrooms to the small shop across the street. The building is a bit old and could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it serves its purpose. Inside, we have those heavy wooden desks that have been scratched by generations of students. The hallways are narrow and can get quite crowded when the classes change. During the big festival seasons like Durga Puja, the whole area around the school gets incredibly busy with stalls and crowds. We usually have to adjust our schedule around that. Our library has a good collection of Bengali books, which the older students seem to appreciate. The teachers have been here for years and they know the families in the area very well. It’s a bit like a big family itself, though with more rules and exams. We don't have a huge playground, but the kids manage to find space to play during their breaks. It is a humble place, but it is ours and we just do our work here in the community. We take it one day at a time and see how things go for the next generation.
