Chawri Bazar is always a maze, but we are easy enough to find at Shop No. 2 in Brij Mohan Market. It’s an old building, like most things around here. We’ve been operating Moti Lal Jain & Co. from this little corner for a long time. The market is crowded, noisy, and full of energy. Every morning we open up the shutters and start the day. We sell various goods, mostly hardware related, but it changes depending on what’s needed. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling. You need a ladder to get most things down. It’s a bit cramped inside, but that’s just how it is in Chawri Bazar. We know our neighbors well; we’ve all been here for years. Customers come in looking for specific items they can’t find elsewhere. We spend a lot of time talking to regulars and drinking tea. It’s not a corporate office with air conditioning. It’s a real shop where you get your hands dirty. Sometimes the deliveries get stuck in the narrow lanes, and we have to go help haul things in. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know to come to Brij Mohan Market. It’s a traditional way of doing business, and it works for us. We just keep moving forward. It can get really hot in the summer with just the ceiling fans, but we’re used to it.
