Out here in New Delhi 110059, the Mohinder Puri Company Chartered Accountants office is a busy spot. We deal with a lot of numbers every day and the calculators never really get a rest. The office isn't in the middle of the city noise but it still has its own kind of rush. We have rows of shelves filled with tax records and ledgers that go back years. It smells like old paper and ink in here. Most of us have been working together for a long time so we don't need to say much to know what needs doing. Someone is always making a fresh pot of tea or coffee in the back corner. The computers are a bit older but they still work fine for what we need. When it is tax season the lights stay on much later than usual. We often order food from the place down the street and eat quickly before getting back to the spreadsheets. It’s honest work and it keeps us focused. The windows look out onto a regular street in Delhi where kids play and people go about their business. It’s a good place to be. We don't have fancy furniture or anything like that. Just solid desks and good chairs because we spend a lot of time sitting in them. It can be a bit stressful when deadlines are close, but we always manage to get through it together as a team.
