Jiwanda Pharma is located at shop number 1515 in the Bhagirath Palace market, which is right near the Red Fort. If you’ve ever been to Lalkila, you know how busy this whole area is. It’s a maze of narrow lanes and hundreds of shops. Our place is right in the thick of it. We deal in various pharmaceutical products, mostly serving the local retailers who come into the city for their supplies. The shop is small and always full of boxes. We have to be very careful how we stack things so nothing falls over. It’s loud outside with all the rickshaws and people shouting, but inside we just focus on our work. We’ve been here for quite a while, so we know the other shopkeepers around us. We usually share a pot of tea in the mornings. There’s no air conditioning, just a few ceiling fans that we keep running all day. The paperwork is piled up on a small wooden desk near the entrance. We handle everything ourselves, from unloading the crates to writing out the bills. It’s a lot of physical work, especially when the weather is humid. We don't have a corporate office or a board of directors. It’s just a family business trying to make a living in the biggest medicine market in the city. We keep it simple and just focus on the day-to-day tasks at hand.
