Riya Trading Company

Our shop is at R-2 in Saurabh Vihar, which is very close to the Durga Mandir. You can hear the temple bells ringing in the mornings and evenings, which is a nice sound to have in the background. Riya Trading Company is where we keep all our stock piled up. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the boxes and crates stacked almost to the ceiling. We have to be careful when moving around so we don't trip over anything. The space is small, but we make it work by organizing things as best as we can. We have a small counter near the entrance where we talk to customers and write out bills by hand. The neighborhood is mostly residential, so things stay relatively calm except during festival times when the temple gets very crowded. We’ve been here long enough that everyone knows us. We spend a lot of time checking inventory and making sure everything is where it should be. The walls are painted a pale color that’s faded over the years. We have a small fan on the desk and a calendar hanging on the wall with some notes scribbled on it. It’s a simple business. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just open the doors and see who comes in. It’s a steady rhythm that we’ve gotten used to over the seasons. Sometimes we share a tea with the neighbors when it’s slow.
