We are over in Vikaspuri, specifically at M-36. It’s a spot where people come to learn how to do hair and makeup and things like that. If you walk in during the morning, you’ll see students practicing on each other or using those practice heads. The mirrors are usually a bit smudged by noon because everyone is working hard. We’ve been in this part of Delhi for a while now. It’s not a huge fancy place, just a regular school where people get their hands dirty with dyes and creams. The neighborhood is always busy, so there’s a lot of noise from the street coming in through the windows sometimes. We have some chairs set up and all the tools like hair dryers and brushes laid out on the tables. Mostly, we just spend our time teaching the basics and making sure everyone gets enough practice. Sometimes the plumbing acts up or the lights flicker a bit, but we just get on with things. It’s a practical place for people who want to work in salons later on. We don’t have any big speeches to give about what we do. It’s just about showing up, picking up the scissors or the brushes, and learning how to use them properly. Most of the staff here have been around for years and we know the local area quite well. It gets a bit crowded on some days when we have a full class, but that’s just how it goes in Vikaspuri.
