Baldev Raj & Sons

Our shop is at No. 422 on Jail Road in the Janakpuri area. Baldev Raj started this business and now the sons are running things. It’s a family affair through and through. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, but we’ve stayed right here. We do a bit of everything depending on what the customers are asking for that week. It’s not a polished operation with uniforms and nametags. We just wear what we have and get to work. The shop is filled with all sorts of items we’ve collected and sold over time. It can get a bit cluttered, but we know where the important stuff is kept. We don't spend money on big ads or social media. Most people find us because their fathers or grandfathers used to shop here. That’s how things work in Janakpuri. We open up early in the morning and stay until the last customer leaves. It’s a lot of hours, but when it’s your own family business, you don’t really think about it that way. We just want to keep things going the way they always have. Sometimes we sit out front and talk to the neighbors when things are slow. It’s a good community and we feel lucky to be a part of it. No big speeches, just honest work every day. We'll be here tomorrow just like today. That's how it has been for years.
