If you’ve ever tried to find a spot near Shivaji stadium, you know how hectic it gets around here. Our clinic is right at 15 Jain Mandir Road, which is a lucky spot because everyone knows the temple. Connaught Place is always moving, but once you step inside our doors, it’s a bit quieter, though you can still hear the distant honking of cars and the occasional whistle from the stadium nearby. We’ve been focusing on joints and arthritis for a long time. Most of the people who come to see us are older folks who find the stairs a bit of a challenge, so we try to make things easy for them. The walls are a plain off-white, and the floor is that old-fashioned stone that stays cool in the Delhi summer. We don’t have flashy posters or big screens. Usually, there’s just a stack of old magazines on the side table that nobody really reads. We spend our days looking at bones and knees, talking to patients about how they’re moving. It’s a steady job. Some days are packed and we barely have time to drink our tea, while other afternoons we just sit and watch the traffic move through CP. It’s a strange mix of being in the heart of the city but having this quiet little space where people come to get their joints looked at and hopefully walk out feeling a little bit better.
